FAQ

The pottery painting activity here at Fired 4 U is suitable for all ages and is a great family activity.

What can we paint?
You choose the pottery item to paint; choosing from mugs, bowls and plates to dragon and Princess ornaments etc to money boxes of all shapes to wine coolers or wine glasses.
How do I paint the pottery?

We explain or demonstrate how you use the pottery paints and you can paint the pottery with either a brush or one of our many different decorating tools. You can transfer designs on to the pottery so you can just paint in the design like colouring in a picture if you wish to. We can show you how to do this.

See the video below and watch Jane using a banding wheel to decorate a plate.

What if I don't know what to do?

As you paint if you have any queries or can’t fully remember all that we explained or wish for assistance we are delighted to do so – just ask us.

What happens when I have finished painting?

Once you have completed your painting you leave the pottery with us to be dried, glazed and Fired 4 U. You can read our blog post on how we finish your pottery off 4 U here. It will be ready to collect the same day the following week.

Should you require a faster return of your pottery this can be possible at times and an additional charge is made for this service. Please ask us.

Who can do pottery painting?
We believe any age can do this, that is up to you. A baby can sit on your knee to paint a pot with your assistance. You can also do pottery painting as a Team building session, Children’s Birthday party, Adults birthday party, Hen or Stag party, Baby prints for keepsakes and gifts, Pet paw prints and Adult evening sessions or preschool children sessions and many more.
How much does it cost?

We charge a £10 table fee which covers the use of the paints, glazing and firing of the pottery for up to 3 painters. Additional painters are charged a fee of £4.50 each. We allow one non painter per table and additional non painters are charged a fee of £4.50 unless the children they are assisting are under school age or you purchase a drink & cake at £3.25. Then you are charged the price of each pottery item you paint and these start at £10 for standard size mugs, plates ate £10-£30 for platters, Ornaments are £9 to £20 approx.

We require a deposit of £20 per table which is non-refundable. In the event you are ill we are happy to rebook your table to a future date.

Mid-week term time if you are just coming by yourself to paint we charge you £5 for the use of the paints, the glazing and firing of the pottery and up to 2 hours in the studio.

How long does it take to do?
This depends on the age of the painter – Adults and children age 8+ often hour and half to 2 hours. Preschool children about 30-45 mins. depends on what they do and how long their attention span is. We allow you 2 hours for your visit to us, if it is quiet we may be able to stretch this at times.
When will my pottery be ready to pick up?

After your painting session, your piece is allowed to dry and then we dip it in the glaze and allow it to dry. Then it will go in the kiln. It will be ready the same day as you painted in the following week. So if you painted on a Wednesday it will be ready to collect the next Wednesday, we will not phone you. We would only phone you if it will not be ready for some reason.

We only phone groups and parties to tell you when it is ready as this is different.

How do I cancel my booking if we are ill?
Please call us on 01772 203060 and we will reschedule your booking and your deposit will be transferred to the new date. If you are unable to make a date at this time we will hold the deposit for you for 6 weeks after which you will lose the deposit.
Do you do Gift vouchers?

Yes we do please see our gift voucher page to order or come to the studio or call us on 01772 20 30 60.

How to Book and Prices

During the covid19 times we are open with less tables than usual and require staggered arrival times to keep the flow of painters happy and safe around our studio. To assist this is it preferable for you to pre book your table.
This can be done either by calling us or using our online booking system.

What Our Customers Say

Inara & I had a wonderful time capturing forever her hand and foot prints on mugs which we gave as birthday gifts to all her grandparents which they just loved. It was lovely to be able to create something so special together which will be treasured forever. Thanks so much for such a special experience – we will certainly be back soon. Sarah & Inara x
