Description & size;
This is painted on a 26cm diameter plate to be used for the Scottish, Northern England First footing tradition on New Year’s Eve. I have written a blog post explaining what you do with these plates in case this tradition is new to you, you can
Details;
I paint these by hand with under glaze paints directly on to the bare pottery. Once they are dry, I glaze them (which is a layer of glass) and dry them again for 24 hours and then fire them in Kelvin or Katy the Kilns. They look after them for 24 hours too and then they come out all shiny and bright to be posted off to you.
You can choose to have yours exactly the same as in this photograph or the wording and colours can be changed to suit your requirements. It covers the first footing requirements of taking in food, fuel, drink and prosperity into the home to ensure all those who live there or visit will be blessed with good health and prosperity in the new year.
It adds fun to your New Year’s Eve party or as a gift to those who are away from home and celebrating elsewhere. Or maybe this year 2020 and great way to deliver New year’s eve cheer in a social distancing way. It’s a great honour to be the First footer into the home. Make sure you always take a drink with you though!
Title on plate; Happy New year or Happy Hogmanay
The wording on the plate in the photo is the traditional wording or you can opt for slightly more modern:
Traditional wording;
It reads beside the fuel offering; May this house always be warm
By the food it says; May there always be food in the larder
Along the bottom under the drink and coin area it reads;
“May the occupants of this house and all visitors be blessed with good health and prosperity”
By the drink coaster it will say “A Wee dram”
More modern wording;
It reads beside the fuel offering; May this house always be warm
By the food it says; May there always be food on the table
Along the bottom under the drink and coin area it reads;
“May the family of this house and all visitors be blessed with good health and prosperity”
A drink bythe drink.
Time to create this;
This can take 6-8 days to create depending on how busy we are and then time to post if we are posting it out to you.
You are welcome to contact me to discuss the design should you wish too on 01772 20 30 60 or contact me
Best wishes,
Jane and Katy and Kelvin the kilns.
