Sicilian inspired vase Club London bespoke order – Vase to match blue porcelain design.
Back in March one Monday evening I received an email by chance from Club London a fashion brand. I thought it was spam at first, as I’m not known for following fashion, I do my own thing. Anyway, after thinking on, it I decided to open it and have a read. It was a friendly note from the Creative Coordinator, asking if I could paint a special bespoke commission vase to be used as a prop in a photo shoot to promote Club London’s summer collection.
Mmmm, I thought, that depends on what they want it on and what the pattern is like. So, I messaged back with a few questions … 9pm at night this is! A reply came back straight away with an attachment of the material design and dress. The pattern looked paintable so I replied “yes I can”.
Emails flew back and forth until the next day; a vase was chosen, a price agreed and I set too painting it the next day. They wanted to film my hands painting it on the Friday morning and it needed to be finished to pick up the following Wednesday to fly it out to the shoot on the Thursday.
The photo shoot in my studio was fun! They “dressed” my glazing shelf to look like a rustic Sicilian art studio; with a painted impression of the pattern on a card, some of my hand painted pots and holiday postcards. I stood for an hour painting with the vase at an angle and my hands in such a way so they didn’t block the vase from the camera. My hands were dressed wearing a beautiful gold and green gem Club London bracelet. Still photo shots and video were taken to use in a Behind the Scenes video of how the design was made.
The following week the vase was collected, they were amazed at the detail of it all and didn’t think anyone would manage to put the whole pattern around the vase, but I had. Sadly, I wasn’t required to travel with the vase to look after it! I was then sworn to secrecy until the launch the second week of April, whilst they sent me copies of the photos and videos, I wasn’t allowed to use them until they went live with it all.
On Monday 8th April the first release of the Sicilian inspired collection called Blue Porcelain, Costa Rosa went out on the social media platforms. It was surreal seeing one of my creations online in beautiful surroundings; on a yacht being “painted” by one of the models dressed in part of the collection. I was so proud of myself and kept watching it back. A few days later they launched the behind-the-scenes story video of how the design came about; the footage of the pattern designer drawing the material by her and my vase at the side and then my hands painting it! I loved seeing this online. Wow the proudest moment in my carer of painting bespoke items to date.
After the shoot the vase is now in Club London office in Manchester, “it’s become the talk of the office, everyone loves it”. This is one photo prop that will stay out on show for sure.
I treated myself to the bikini in the range and the original dress both in the Blue Porcelain design, it’s not every day you can say “I painted the vase that matches this dress!”
